DESIGN BRIEF
Olympics Live is a festival where visitors can watch Olympic coverage broadcast around Australia and enjoy athlete interviews, live entertainment and have a go at Olympic sports. It took place in major capital cities, and a number of regional towns. Sports clubs and community hubs were also encouraged to host their own Olympics Live event to generate participation and celebration of sport and Olympic achievement at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
With the Games hosted in Japan, the brand identity became a combination of manga-inspired illustrations, fun, energetic typography and motifs that could be added to or adapted for subsequent Games. The brand identity is based on the manga illustration style and made up of sporting and cultural icons. This formed the background to the logo and also became a tool in designs when calling out locations, times and other event information in the form of icons. The playful nature of this identity meant the illustration could be adapted or expanded upon depending on the application – such as in motion or when sport specific illustrations were more fitting.
